Test Architect
A test architect is responsible for defining the overall testing architecture, automation strategy, tools, frameworks, and technical direction for testing activities.

Real World Example
A company runs six product teams, each testing independently with different tools — one on Selenium, another on Cypress, another still tracking cases in spreadsheets — with no shared approach to managing test data.
Each team reinvents its own testing approach, and leadership can't compare test health across teams because everyone measures and reports differently, while duplicated tooling effort adds cost with no cross-team benefit.
A Test architect steps in to define a common test automation approach and a shared test data management strategy across all six teams, and works with the security and platform teams so testing integrates cleanly with how environments and secrets are actually provisioned.
Within two quarters, all six teams report test results in a comparable way and share one well-managed test data pipeline instead of six ad hoc ones — a structural, cross-team decision a Test architect is specifically positioned to make, which no single team's test manager could resolve alone.
