Dashboard

A dashboard is a visual display that presents key project, testing, or quality metrics to help stakeholders monitor progress and make informed decisions.

Official definition
ISTQB Official Glossary Definition
A representation of dynamic measurements of operational performance for some organization or activity, using metrics represented via metaphors such as visual dials, counters, and other devices resembling those on the dashboard of an automobile, so that the effects of events or activities can be easily understood and related to operational goals.

What is Dashboard?

Dashboards combine important measurements into a single view, allowing teams to quickly identify trends, risks, and areas requiring attention.

Visual reporting: Information is presented using charts, graphs, and indicators.

Decision support: Dashboards provide timely insight into project status.

Customization: Different stakeholders may require different dashboard views.

Real World Example

A regulated product team is preparing a release where Dashboard appears in reviews, test design conversations, or defect triage rather than as an isolated glossary word.

The risk is that the team treats Dashboard as interchangeable with nearby ISTQB terms. That makes test scope blurry and can lead to weak evidence for the release decision.

The tester anchors the discussion in the official definition, asks where the concept appears in the product, and designs examples that show the difference between Dashboard and similar ideas.

The page becomes useful in practice because Dashboard is connected to a specific testing decision, not memorized as a detached definition.
